Buckie Shirakata (1912-1994) was born and raised in Honolulu by his immigrant parents and went to Japan in the early 30s. After graduating from university he married a local girl and began playing Hawaiian music which had become all the rage. His group, Buckie Shirakata and His Aloha Hawaiians was perhaps the most prolific of the perid with over 200 recordings to their credit. Best known as a steel guitar player, Buckie also played ukulele which he featured prominently in his recordings.
